Strand of the Ancients is a battleground that’s gotten relatively short shrift lately — it came along into the game with the crown jewel of Wrath PvP so far, Wintergrasp, and while it’s still frequented on honor weekends (it’s one of the best ways to farm honor, actually) and for achievements, lots of players, specifically those on the Horde, aren’t happy with it. Why? Because right now, Alliance always starts the battle on offense first. The battle is a regular attack-and-defend map, and Alliance reportedly has a “significant advantage” by beginning on the attack side: they only have to play offense for a few minutes, and then defend for the same amount of time, while Horde have to defend the whole first round and then attack if they want to win. Plus, the battleground doesn’t always start full, which means whoever attacks first usually is fighting fewer defenders.
So how hard would it be to throw a coin flip in there and randomize who starts first? The good news is that Blizzard is working on it, but the bad news is that it’s

Patch 3.1.1a, which we previously wow goldcovered last week, will be coming during tomorrow’s extended maintenance. This is according to a small update Crygil gave this evening.
While we don’t have the full patch notes yet, Patch 3.1.1a will just correct small issues that cannot be hot-fixed into the game. Notably, the tooltip to the Paladin’s Exorcism ability will be updated to reflect that it cannot be used on players.
Realms will be down from 3:00 a.m. PDT / 6:00 a.m. EDT until 11:00 a.m. PDT / 2:00 p.m. EDT. We’ll let you know when they’re up, and if there will be any additional extended maintenance.

You might remember Wowcrendor from It’s a Hard Gnome Life. That piece was a comedy satire about many of WoW’s most interesting little quirks. Well, Wowcrendor’s back, with a new piece that will help us cynics have a cold chuckle at our own folly. The World of Warcraft Instructional Video actually had me laughing out loud.
This simple instructional video involves brief cuts from gameplay, but also features two very important voiceovers. The first voice is “Billy,” a complete and total wow goldnewb to the game. Billy’s not even sure what the difference between melee and ranged DPS. The instructor, by comparison, shares a deeply voiced “insider’s view” of the game. The instructor’s helping Billy with everything from how to name his character (“Orcosaurus”) to how to avoid grouping with PUGs.
The video is satire, and insightful satire at that. Almost every joke and instructional portion made me chuckle, thinking of some of the more hostile and unhelpful responses I’ve seen in Barrens chat. Part of the reason

Once upon a time, when the World of Warcraft was all shiny and new, things were simple: the Horde hated the Alliance and they, in turn, despised the Horde. It was a simpler time, but this wasn’t just some game mechanic to facilitate PvP wow goldand hours of ganking, oh no, it was integral to the lore of Azeroth.
Now, it’s also worth remembering that there’s no black and white in Azeroth either. The Horde aren’t evil for just being the Horde, neither are the Alliance all pure as newly fallen snow. Each faction has done its fair share of pure and evil acts depending on the actions of individual heroes and the motivations of their leaders.
But now we’re post patch 3.1, it’s time to rexamine the state of relations between the two factions. Times have changed quite drastically since we first entered Azeroth and the addition of The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King have only made things much more complicated. The Wrath Gate cinematic gave us some glimpse of how the two factions are getting on in the continually evolving lore of Azeroth.

Self: “Self, I wonder if there’s any more in-game fixes for today.”Self: “I don’t know Self, let me go look.”Self looks around.Self: “Why look at that self, there is!”
It’s not weird that I’m talking to myself in a disconnected third person voice, is it? Perhaps all these fixes are getting to my head.
The changes announced late last night are not as prevalent as other days, but are still important none the less. Some of the more interesting fixes for today include:
The damage of XT-002 Deconstructor’s Gravity Bomb ability has been reduced.
The trash mobs before XT-002 Deconstructor have gone through additional changes that should make them a little easier to get through.
The Rogue talent Savage Combat should now properly be removed after leaving an arena match.
The full list of changes after the break.
Fear Ward will now properly be consumed whether a player is sitting or standing.
The Rogue talent Savage Combat should now properly be removed after leaving an arena match.
Greater Blessing of Wisdom and Mana

Hoo boy, what a show at our podcast on Saturday. After one of the craziest starts our show has ever had (BRK’s house decided to go a little nuts right before we started), we got as professional as we could and got down to business. After answering emails (including more on why you should listen to your mother), we talked about the addon changes and how they’ll affect players and developers, Blizzard’s plans for a mobile authenticator, and more of the latest news out of patch 3.1. We also brainstormed new flavors for Mountain Dew, and finally, we played what everyone was waiting to hear: Turpster’s new WoW Insider song.
Yes, because our fans were kind enough to get 4,000 people to join in on our Facebook page, we recorded that abomination of hilarity. You can download it as an mp3 right here, for use in remixes or machinima or whatever you want to do with it, and I’ve posted the lyrics and liner notes after the break. Enjoy.
And don’t forget we’re currently in a campaign for OVER 9000 Twitter followers. Join up to Twitter and follow us, and

Every Wednesday, Chase Christian of Encrypted Text invites you to enter the world of shadows, as we explore the secrets and mechanics of the Rogue class. This week, we discuss the how to properly bind your abilities to the keyboard.
While on a Sartharion 25 raid this past weekend, I noticed one of the other Rogues in the group moving very peculiarly. It took me a second to put my finger on it, but I figured out what was happening. He would be running around normally, and would then stop in place for two seconds every time he used Fan of Knives. I sent him a friendly whisper, asking why he was pausing when using Fan of Knives. He replied back that he had to stop moving and click the FoK button on his action bars, of course. I asked why he didn’t simply bind FoK to a key for easier access, and he replied with “My 1-9 keys are already full!”
Many Rogues spend hours choosing between different gems and weapon choices, when often the difference is less than 1% of their DPS. I see the control aspects of the class as more important than gear choices (not that gear is

On the podcast last Saturday, our friend NinthBatter (maker of the WI Song’s machinima) gave us an on-scene report from the PETA event that took place earlier in the day. As you might expect, it was chaos — while PETA’s plan was to roll Alliance and attack a few Horde bad guys, lots of folks rolled Horde instead, and started up a guild called the “Seal Cub Clubbing Club.” Many, many seals died, as you can see in the few pictures below.
And perhaps most hilariously, people brought plenty of Great Feasts to lay out for the crowd, which means that right in all of the (supposedly) animal-saving action, there was plenty of roast pig to eat. Not exactly the best day for PETA, but what did they expect? They did, however, get quite a few media mentions, so it was probably mission accomplished over there anyway.
Did you go to the event? If you’ve got more pictures of what happened, or even some video of what went down, let us know and we’ll add them to the gallery below.

A Chip Off the Ulduar Block is the counterpart to Jack Me Some Lumber, which we talked about a couple of days ago. This time around we need to gather up some stone to be used in building the coliseum. It’s another Goblin quest, so naturally this stone must come from the most morally questionable location possible. This time around we’re plundering Titan ruins.
You’re sent off to the Storm Peaks equipped with a Goblin Chisel, and it’s time to find your stone. You’ll find them in the Foot Steppes and the Inventor’s Library, which I’ve marked on the map above. Yes, there are two different locations you can finish this one, and I find there are advantage to each. The Inventor’s Library is surrounded by Library Guardians that drop Relics of Ulduar. If you still need Sons of Hodir reputation, this is a good place to this quest. Two birds, one stone. The Foot Steppes is full of rhinos, so if you need their sweet, sweet meats, you’ll want to do this there. It’s really your choice.
The blocks look like what you see above.
